Phil Alvarez is one of those rare multi-instrumentalists who can just pick up any instrument and play it well. He started playing drums because his oldest brother was a drummer but was already taking piano lessons which he eventually settled into…for a spell. He eventually learned how to play guitar, mandolin and other instruments. He joined bands as a teenager and even played in bars, but due to his age, his parents would wait for Phil in the family car in the parking lot and as soon as he finished a set, he had to wait in the car with them until it was time for him to play again.

His influences include Smashing Pumpkins, Bright Eyes, Eels, Radiohead, Jenny Lewis and others. He’s been performing in various high caliber tribute bands including a No Doubt Live Tribute show in Orange County, in the county which they hail from. Phil doesn’t see himself as a performer per se but enjoys playing with his friends, and if there is an audience, that’s even better. He also enjoys the unpredictability of live performances and finds the challenges that a real time performance presents.

Phil crossed paths with Mario in a previous band, and enjoyed playing with him, so when the call came to join up with the LA Rock Show, Phil accepted. He also finds the songs he plays with LA Rock Show pushes him outside his comfort zone and enjoys the challenge if offers. With his impressive resume of live performances in LA and Orange County, and his ability to sing, play keyboards and guitar at the highest level, Phil is the complete package.

When Phil isn’t playing music, he loves to spend time with his friends, cooking and writing.
